To be completely honest this is not his first test ride. Fast food chain specializing in fried chicken, KFC, has released 100% vegan “fake fried chicken”, especially in the US. But this is the first time in France that this vegetarian option launched the brand! In the 30 years since it was founded in France, Colonel Sanders’ company has offered no such option for customers who are vegetarian, flexible or curious about new culinary discoveries.
This has now been done with the Cornell Original Veggie, the first vegetarian burger from KFC that has now reached almost 300 French restaurants. Based on (almost) the same recipe as the original Cornell, so there will be no fried chicken but a vegetarian breaded mushroom protein base. The rest of the ingredients that made this burger famous remain unchanged. “With Cornell Original Veggie, KFC aims to make its offering accessible to everyone, and especially those who want to reduce their meat consumption or who have already opted for a vegetarian diet.“, KFC France General Manager Isabelle Herrmann is delighted.
KFC is going veggie with its first vegetarian burger!
After Kwik or Burger King, it’s time for giant KFC to launch vegetarian burgers! Bread with sesame seeds and French flour, cheddar, salad, iconic original sauce and a vegetarian bread, here is the Cornell Original Veggie, available at KFC from today. Made with mycoprotein (mushroom protein), this baked bread can fool even chicken lovers! So in partnership with Koron Company, a specialist in mycoprotein based vegetarian and vegan food, KFC has chosen to offer this exclusive and unique recipe.
“We are delighted to be partnering with Quorn. Mycoproteins are the perfect substitute for meat for us (…), they allow us to have a taste like chicken that highlights the secret marinade of Colonel Sanders with 11 herbs and spices and goes perfectly with our bread.“, believes KFC France’s Innovation Manager, Maude Russell. This vegetarian bread, both gourmet and with extraordinary nutritional value, will really blow you away!
Last but not least, KFC’s Cornell Original Veggie is V-label certified (a certification for vegetarian and vegan products). The recipe will also be served in eco-friendly packaging, grass-based paper made with 20% grass fiber. An initiative to limit its environmental impact we can only encourage.
If you want a taste of Cornell Original Veggies, visit KFC today! But beware, the Kentucky-born brand’s first vegetarian recipe is only offered in a limited edition. You have until October 11 to find out. But it looks like KFC is already considering adding this burger to the menu permanently…
